You know how they say to really know yourself – your gifts, temperament, personality and all that – you just need to look at the kind of child you were. That is who you really are … your authentic self. You’re not really this adult person you’ve grown to become. You change as you grow up – no prizes for guessing why. I look at the kind of things I used to love to do back when I was a kid and one of them was drawing. I loved sketching and painting and making things with my hands. It’s been ages since I’ve done anything like that. The last time I picked up a pencil to sketch was 14 years ago. Which was when I drew this Chinese girl …
… this really stiff-looking horse that has, for reasons I cannot remember, no eyeballs …
… and, for some bizarre reason, Oprah Winfrey (without the extra poundage and for some other bizarre reason, with white hair).
I was skulking around this arts and crafts store the other day and was struck by how excited I became all of a sudden … looking at the canvases, the tubes of paint, the brushes … it got me thinking again. Maybe it’s time to attempt a resurrection of the inner artist I’d shoved aside for 15 years. You know, dredge her up, slap her around a bit and see if she’s still got any life left in her. She might. I certainly hope so … I’d hate to see her dead forever. Besides, drawing will give me something to do when I’m old, senile and retired.

Wow those drawings r rlly good.. Specialy d horse
thanks
wish I’d taken it more seriously and given it more practice. a load of time wasted!
Huh?
whaddayamean ‘huh’?
wow. they’re really nice!!! you should see some of MY drawings. it would impress the socks off of the next stick person it sees.
u should continue sketching!
Thanks Marsh
Am thinking of taking up some adult art class – my god, sounds like porn – just for fun. you know, learn a few techniques, relax a little and finally, do something I truly enjoy … which doesn’t have a deadline!!
I had no idea you could draw like this!! You have talent lah, dont’ waste it
14 years in the backburner. bad huh? talk about getting caught up with Work. eesh
That’s brilliant drawing by hand or electronic? or did you take a clipart and improve it? If it was by hand, I see a very successful street artist…need to paint some sunflowers to really tell
all by hand … a long long time ago. Haha, very funny – clipart??? I find it very de-stressing to draw. Am thinking I should pick it back up cos god knows I need the de-stressing!! Then I can set up shop in Central Market and sell pictures of horses with no eyeballs.
Those are great! and 15yrs ago too, back when u wr a kid rite? did u evr take classes?
well, I wasn’t exactly a ‘kid’. i was studying abroad already … never took any classes, so I’ve got no idea when it comes to techniques and materials and all that. Am thinking I shd get going in that dept, maybe take a class
Wow winnie, no art classes before n u can draw like that? Wow…u’d really do great refining yr skills in art classes! By the time we’re old, senile and retired, ya i’d look back too and think even if i had drawn (or attempted to draw) a piece every forthnight, I’d be able to draw a pencil by now
Drawing a pencil? Come on la… you deserve more credit than that right?? But then again, my mom’s pretty hopeless at art. She once drew a tree, which I thought was a dustbin!! I’m not exaggerating! Bwahahaha
Hahaha…I took art class when I was a kid, thus you would see a pencil. If not, just some crooked mesh of lines!
those drawings are really good…
Thanks Snickers!
That’s art la … abstract art! who’s to say what’s art and what’s not right? *snigger*
